Last night's red carpet was covered with trains and diamonds per usual! We saw a lot of frothy colored beaded frocks and solid colored gowns. Most of the ladies completed their looks with loose waves and natural makeup. We also saw a lot of stylish suits on the men as opposed to ordinary black tuxes. Keep on reading to see what the stars wore last night!
My Favorites
Kate Blanchett in Giorgio Armani I Sandra Bullock in Alexander McQueen I Jennifer Garner in Oscar de la Renta
Amy Adams in Gucci
Amy Adams in Gucci
Perfection. That was all I could think of when I saw these four on the red carpet last night. Cate Blanchett was the ultimate golden girl. Sandra Bullock's gown gave her killer curves. Jennifer Garner sparkled from head to toe and the fringes on her gown lit up every time she walked. Amy Adams looked stunning in her perfectly tailored gown and I loved her Tiffany & Co. coral drop earrings!
Beaded Nude Sheer Sleeves
Sally Hawkins in Valentino I Angelina Jolie in Elie Saab I Julie Deply in Jenny Packham I Sarah Paulson in Elie Saab
We don't normally get a lot of sleeve action from the ladies, but we saw a lot of it on the red carpet last night. All of these gowns were heavily beaded but worked well with the nude see-through underlay. Pure perfection and completely regal all across the board.
Beaded White Cap Sleeves
Jenna Dewan-Tatum in Reem Acra I Naomi Watts in Calvin Klein Collection I Calista Flockhart in Andrew Gn
Maria Menounos in Johanna Johnson
Maria Menounos in Johanna Johnson
These ladies were white hot last night! I loved the delicate sleeves on Jenna Dewan-Tatum's gown. I love, love, love gowns with illusion necklines. So feminine and delicate! Naomi Watts' clutch and pop of red lipstick were the perfect accessories for her sparkly gown. I also loved Calista Flockhart's emerald earrings against her white gown and Maria Menounos looked simply angelic.
Beaded Silver Strapless and Capes
Kristen Bell in Roberto Cavalli I Jessica Biel in Chanel I Kate Hudson in Atelier Versace
Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka
Kelly Osbourne in Badgley Mischka
Like I mentioned earlier, last night was all about the beadwork! I loved the swirly, laser cut organza skirt on Kristen Bell's gown. Jessica Biel's shimmery gown was stunning but let's be honest, her arms stole the show. Kate Hudson's gown and cape screamed old Hollywood glamour, and I loved the way Kelly Osbourne's beaded caplet stood out against her simple white gown.
Powder Pink
Penelope Cruz in Giambattista Valli I Camila Alves in Gabriela Cadena I Jada Pinkett-Smith Atelier Versace
Laura Dern in Alberta Ferretti
Laura Dern in Alberta Ferretti
I was a tad bit disappointed in the simplicity of Penelope Cruz's gown, only because we're so used to seeing her in grandiose-styled gowns on the red carpet. Nevertheless, she still looked like an effortlessly chic goddess. I loved the shoulder sashes on the Camila Alves and Jada Pinkett-Smith's gowns. Laura Dern's gown washed her out a little bit but I loved the tiered design on her.
Gold and Nude
Portia de Rossi in Naeem Khan I Goldie Hawn in Atelier Versace I Kristin Chenoweth in Roberto Cavalli
Suki Waterhouse in Marchesa
Suki Waterhouse in Marchesa
Gold for Oscar! Portia de Rossi's cutout gown complimented her skin tone and hair color very well. I loved that Goldie Hawn refrained from wearing a frumpy frock and proved she still has what it takes to be a golden girl. I loved the basket weave design on Kristin Chenoweth's gown. Suki Waterhouse was a bit shy throughout the evening and I wish she hadn't been. She looked like a modern day Cinderella with her beaded tulle gown.
Pastels
Lupita Nyong'o in Prada I Lady Gaga in Versace I Robin Roberts in Dennis Basso I Kerry Washington in Jason Wu
Lupita Nyong'o almost made it to my favorites list but I wasn't a fan of the super deep v-neck. I did however, love the color and the way it sparkled towards the hemline. Lady Gaga totally transformed herself and looked like a young Donatella Versace. Robin Roberts' lavender trumpet gown was absolutely gorgeous on her. Kerry Washington definitely rocked the maternity glow and the color of her gown complimented her entire look.
Blues and Greens
Idina Menzel in Vera Wang I Alfre Woodward in Escada I June Squibb in Tadashi Shoji I Viola Davis in Escada
I loved the gathering and sweetheart neckline on Idina Menzel's Vera Wang gown. I wasn't a huge fan of Alfre Woodward's gown, but I loved the sparkly black lace against the navy blue. June Squibb looked absolutely adorable in her two piece ensemble, and I loved the asymmetrical neckline and color of Viola Davis' gown.
Red and Combinations
Jennifer Lawrence in Dior I Bette Midler in Reem Acra I Chrissy Teigen in Monique Lhuillier I Meryl Streep in Lanvin
I was a bit surprised that no one else wore solid red except for Jennifer Lawrence. We saw so much of it at the Golden Globes! Anywho, Dior really knows how to dress their spokesmodel. Jennifer Lawrence is known for wearing simple, body-hugging gowns and she definitely has the right physique for it. Bette Midler's red floral gown looked beautifully handcrafted. Chrissy Teigen looked even taller in her high-low gown and I loved the belt on Meryl Streep's gown.
Sparkly Black
Anna Kendrick in J. Mendel I Anna Hathaway in Gucci I Emma Watson in Vera Wang I Margot Robbie in Saint Laurent
Whoever said black dresses aren't fun is seriously wrong. I loved the peekaboo and pop of red on Anna Kendrick's dress. Anne Hathaway made a flashy entrance thanks to the kaleidoscope design on her gown. Emma Watson vamped it up with her metallic gown, and I loved the big beaded bow on the back of Margot Robbie's gown.
Ladylike Black
Julia Roberts in Givenchy I Charlize Theron Dior I Olivia Wilde in Valentino I Glenn Close in Zac Posen
All of these gowns may have been solid black but they were anything but simple. All of these gowns were super ladylike and stood out on its own. I'm pretty sure Julia Roberts wowed everyone with her lacy peplum gown. It's much sexier than the looks she rocked at the Golden Globes and Sag Awards. Charlize Theron never fails to impress. I loved the nude colored straps and tiered mermaid train. For those of you who didn't see it, Olivia Wilde's gown had a cute bow and white sash in the back. It may have looked demure from the front but the back was fun and cute. I give props to Glenn Close for pulling off a textured trumpet gown with such ease.
Black Tuxedos
Bradley Cooper in I Leonardo DiCaprio in Armani I Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Calvin Klein I Jeremy Renner in Givenchy
Let's not forget about the men because they totally brought on a show of their own last night. Leading the way in traditional tuxes were Bradley Cooper and Leonardo DiCaprio. I loved the hint of shimmer on Joseph Gordon-Levitt's suit and I loved Jeremy Renner's crisp white bow tie. Chiwetel Ejiofor looked really dapper in his tux as well but I couldn't find a photo of him by himself.
Colorful Tuxedos
Kevin Spacey in Burberry
The cast of Dallas Buyers Club really knew how to dress themselves last night. Jared Leto and Matthew McConaughey stood out in their white jackets and won the top two male awards. Maybe Leo should wear a white jacket the next time he's nominated (I'm still very sad he didn't win). Jason Sudeikis and Kevin Spacey made a fashion statement of their own in navy blue tuxes.
Overall, I thought Ellen DeGeneres did a great job hosting the show and I can't wait to see what fashion statements next year's Oscars will bring us!
XOXO,
Elizabeth
